Aubrey and Matthew Hickman’s Love Story
At Bella Rose, one of the most rewarding things is to hear our brides’ love stories. So for this blog post I’m going to share one with the readers!
It was all set into motion in 2012. Aubrey was a student at the University of Tulsa and had a group of friends who were determined to see Aubrey and her friend Matthew date. They would manipulate seating arrangements at parties so that Matthew and Aubrey were sitting next to each other and continuously joked that the two should date. Matthew and Aubrey’s friendship continued to grow through the years. The years ticked by, all the way until 2018, New Years Eve. Matt watched the second hand tick closer and closer to the twelve on the clock. The ball dropped, people shouted “Happy New Year!” and Matthew leaned close to Aubrey, his friend, and kissed her.
Later that night, Aubrey and Matt had the most meaningful conversation. In Aubrey’s words “I knew we were meant for each other after our first deep, real conversation on the night we started dating. We talked for hours and hours about our morals, values, life dreams, passions, family, and goals. He was so intentional and genuine with every question and answer.” From there, they dated a little over two years, part of it being long-distance, and fell even deeper in love.
On March 6th, 2020, Matt and Aubrey were going to dinner with Matt’s sister and brother-in-law. Matt conveniently forgot his wallet, and he and Aubrey drove back to his house to go retrieve it. As they got closer, Aubrey spotted more than one-hundred people at the top of a nearby hill. At that point, she knew what was happening. He led her to a tree with a bench under it that was surrounded by flowers and pictures and got down on one knee! The rest of the night was spent celebrating with their friends and family.
Aubrey and Matt got married on July 18th, 2020. I asked Aubrey what the most magical parts of her wedding were and her answers were beautiful! She had three favorite moments. The first being when she and Matt landed eyes on each other for the first time on their wedding day. Aubrey was walking down the aisle with tears in her eyes as her fiance beamed at her. Another magical moment was when their friends and family spoke at the rehearsal dinner about how meaningful and impactful Matt and Aubrey’s relationship was to them. And last but not least, another one of Aubrey’s favorite moments was surprising a couple whose wedding was postponed due to the pandemic with a special dance for them. They were so touched!
